Life passes by quickly. Before you know it, your little ones will grow up into adults with a life of their own. And when they do, you would want them to be ready for life.

Education gives your children the knowle0dge they need about different subjects, but it does not necessarily equip them with essential life skills. Life is full of surprises, but not all are pleasant. If you want to save your children from the nasty surprises in adulthood, you should help them acquire these basic life skills as youth.

There are lots of camps in the world catering to children and young people each year. Often set in areas of outstanding natural beauty, they offer a wide range of activities and education. There is usually a range of permanent buildings including workshops and activity centers, and a place where the whole camp can meet. Some camps cater to teenagers and young people and offer programs of day and evening activities to them.

Outdoor education is ‘those activities concerned with living, moving and learning in the outdoors. This will include survival, residential experiences, and a variety of activities and skills, both physical and concerned with observing the environment.

The outdoors will normally be interpreted in terms of situations where self-reliance is required. These activities and skills are selected and designed to achieve objectives within aims which are concerned primarily with developing attitudes, abilities, and relationships.

The most important aims are to heighten awareness of and foster respect for:

Self – through the meeting of challenge (adventure).
Others – through group experiences and the sharing of decisions.
The natural environment – through direct experience.

As Henry S. Curtis said: Camping out is an experience that every girl and every boy should have… certain sides of our nature will be underdeveloped if we have not the campfire for our teacher. The experience that softens the heart and kindles friendship and the imagination is no less educative than the knowledge that instructs the head. Camping intensifies friendship, and friendship furnishes the motive and the reward of most of our efforts. It doubles our strength for achievement. It gives us most of the joys of life. It is the riches of the spirit and quite as worthy of effort as wealth or learning.

What makes a child gifted and talented may not always be good grades in school, but a different way of looking at the world and learning.

We all know how important soft skills are in making or breaking career and building a secure social support network to help us through the ups and downs of general life.

It’s not just soft skills in the workplace that count on the career ladder or in being socially successful. With such high competition in securing university places, internships, and work experience, it’s no longer enough to be securing top grades alone. In fact, it’s now accepted that a student with top grades but poor soft skills will not achieve a career or salary as great as an average-grade student with outstanding soft skills.

Presenting oneself as likable, being able to relate and listen to other people, finding creative ways forward in conflict resolution and the ability to prioritize and balance life elements… all of these aspects count in opening doors and excelling in life – and it counts in the teenage years when your child is learning about social dynamics and creating their base network of people and possibilities.

At Campomic we will teach and reinforce essential skills, firmly based.
